The Huffington Post reports that after a substitute teacher overheard 9-year-old Emanyea tell another student a teacher was 'cute,' school officials put him on two-day suspension from a North Carolina school for sexual harassment.
The boy's mother doesn't agree with the punishment.
"It's not like he went up to the woman and tried to grab her or touch her in a sexual way," Lockett told WSOC TV. "So why would he be suspended for two days?"
The boy didn't say this to the teacher, he was overheard telling a friend so what sense does punishment make? The school is vague with details but they say he exhibited inapproriate behavior. However, until we get an in depth explanation from that side of the story, we're going to have to assume officials there are stupid. Even if the boy did tell the teacher, that's what kids that age do. They get crushes every now and then and express them with compliments or presents (apples, etc). Calling someone "cute" to a friend isn't harassment. Anyway, watch the video:
