TV News Anchors Resign On Air

Sometimes the only way to win is to quit.

Two local anchors resigned on-air after allegedly being told to report on biased news stories. Cindy Michaels and co-anchor Tony Consiglio said their goodbyes on the Bangor, Maine, ABC affiliate WVII Tuesday (Nov. 21) at the end of their 6 p.m. broadcast.

"Some recent developments have come to our attention, though, and departing together is the best alternative we can take," Consiglio said.

In an interview with the Bangor Daily News, Consiglio said that tensions were growing between the talent and the station's upper management, which contributed to their shocking resignation.

"It's a culmination of ongoing occurrences that took place the last several years and basically involved upper management practices that we both strongly disagreed with,” Michaels told the paper. "It's a little complicated, but we were expected to do somewhat unbalanced news, politically, in general." Though there were no career alternatives lined up for either of them, Michaels said she would pursue her freelance writing and some painting, while Consiglio said he'd be trying to find another job in TV news.
