Twitter To Sell Movie Tickets Through Fandango
An intriguing new deal was just inked by the good folks at Twitter, Comcast and NBC Universal. Starting next month in November, movie fans will be able to click and “see it,” without any sort of interruption. Find out what this means for theater-goers after the jump.
Ever since announcing their bid to go public, Twitter has been raking in deals left and right in order to buoy their newly minted power status. The deal, which was first announced by Deadline, will begin small, only working with Universal properties and on Comcast cable systems. But, if it is like the other number of changes Twitter has made over the last few months, the successful move will expand outward later on in the next year.
Whenever someone you follow or are influenced by talks about a TV show, a movie, or even a sporting event, a “See It” button will appear in your feed. Depending on your cable provider and subscriptions, that event will just come on with one click on the button. Aimed at being a national service, entertainment junkies will now find their mobile devices turned into remote controls, which will allow them to switch directly to a TV show or buy tickets to movie theaters.
We reported last week about Twitter’s plan to count the number of people who read and write tweets about TV shows—a sort of Nielsen ratings for social media—and their Amplify program aims to re-revolutionize television.
