Ultra Music Festival set to invade Europe

Ultra Music Festival set to invade Europe

Angus Paterson Posted November 28, 2012

One of the true vanguards in terms of EDM festivals in the United States, the Ultra brand had a massive year that’s set to expand even further in 2013, taking place across two weeks in Miami for the very first time. However, it turns out this was just the tip of the iceberg, with today’s announcement that Ultra Europe will be launching next year from 12th-14th July.

Taking place in the sunny surroundings of Croatia in Eastern Europe, already a popular party destination, the organisers have announced the country will be the exclusive destination for Ultra Europe over the next five years. Interestingly, the festival will take place over a massive three days, and across two different locations. On the Friday and Saturday, Ultra Europe will take place at the Poljud Stadium in the city of Split, while on Sunday the event will hop over to the Hotel Amfora Grand Beach Resort on the island of Hvar, accessible by a short ferry ride.

Ultra Europe will join a thriving festival scene in Croatia, which already includes popular events like Hideout and Outlook, and Adam Russakoff, executive producer for Ultra Worldwide, said the region was chosen for how successful it’s proved in drawing clubbers around the world.

“I’m extremely excited about this new chapter for Ultra and our expansion into the European market. The recent boom in music tourism in that region, coupled with Croatia’s expected entry into the European Union in July 2013, makes perfect sense for us from a business perspective.”

Russakoff says while they’re not yet ready to discuss the acts we’ll be seeing at Ultra Europe, a quick glance at the spectacular lineup of the Miami edition should provide an idea of what to expect. “Whilst we’re not yet at liberty to disclose the finer details regarding specific artists for Ultra Europe 2013 at this stage, what I can say is that since its inception back in 1999, Ultra has always prided itself upon programming the most forward thinking, innovative line-ups any festival in the world has to offer… this year’s programme will be no exception.”

The organisers will be going up against some stiff competition, with the European festival calendar already positively packed with EDM delights, including Tomorrowland in Belgium, Global Gathering in the UK and many more. However, as anyone who’s attended the Miami installments will already be aware, the organisers have shown they’ve got what it takes to throw one of the world’s best parties, meaning Ultra Europe will be the one to watch in 2013.

The announcement of Ultra Europe comes off the back of some big news for the stateside edition of the festival. In October it was announced that Ultra Music Festival would be expanding to two weekends in 2013 for the very first time, while earlier this month, we received the news that the Swedish House Mafia had chosen the event as their last stop on their ‘One Last Tour’.
