Universal loved the smell of that $120 million that Ride Along brought them, and so they're already gearing up to develop a sequel.
Tim Story will direct Ride Along 2 with Ice Cube and Kevin Hart in talks to reprise their roles as the quick-witted security guard and his tough-as-nails partner. After making its debut on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the film brought in a solid opening of $41.5.
Universal has kicked the project into gear and has even brought back Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi, the film's original screenwriters, to keep the formula in place for a follow-up. The film "will be more multi-cultural to expand the demos," according to Deadline. Could this mean that the project will go R-rated on the next go-around?
Hart is continuing his reign at the box office, as this news comes fresh off of his strong showing at the box office with About Last Night. Production on Ride Along 2 will start this July once Hart signs on and / or finishes with Get Hard with Will Ferrell for Warner Bros. Add Think Like a Man, Too to the mix and Hart is proving to be the iron man of this cinematic comedy isn.
