UPDATE: ’24’ & Kiefer Sutherland Returns To Fox In May 2014
Fox is canceling Kiefer Sutherland’s Touch, but does this mean the network would like to get the fan-favorite show 24 back on the air?
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter just announced the revival of 24 as a limited series after hopes for a big-screen adaptation fizzled out when 20th Century Fox and producer Imagine could not agree on a budget. “24 compressed over 12 weeks, Jack is back,” Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly told reporters early Monday during a conference call ahead of the network’s upfront presentation.
Like the original series, the 12-episode reboot, dubbed 24: Live Another Day, hails from 20th Television and Imagine TV’s Brian Grazer with Gordon’s banner Teakwood Lane on board to co-produce. Fox will bow the limited project in May 2014.
ORIGINAL STORY BELOW:
Deadline has learned that Jack Bauer is reportedly in talks to reprise his beloved role in a limited series event. When the show ended its eight season run back in 2010, many were wondering out loud when the cast and crew would bring their talents to Hollywood in the form of a big budget action picture. Attempts at making a film out of the series have been unsuccessful, as most recently Antoine Fuqua left his post as director due to Sutherland’s domineering schedule.
After Fox announced that Touch would be canceled, 24 is being pitched with a completely new story arc with showrunner Howard Gordon (executive producer of Showtime’s Homeland) set to return to helm the project. While the network has yet to confirm the news; Fox is planning on announcing everything when they hold their upfront presentation (that unveils their 2013-2014 schedule) to advertisers on Monday in New York.
Touch was Sutherland’s anticipated follow-up to the high-octane thriller 24 — but the show never reached spectacular heights. The series found Sutherland as a widower who struggles to connect with his mute son, and was launched in the most peculiar way—with a post-American Idol special preview in January 2012. For whatever reason, viewers seemed to lose touch from there, but our hope is that Jack Bauer can return to invigorate the feeling.
