Legendary soul singer Etta James is back home after spending almost two weeks in the hospital for breathing trouble. The 73-year-old, who’s been diagnosed with terminal leukemia and is suffering from dementia, was sent home a few days after being taken off the respirator and her blood pressure going back to normal.
Now home at her residence in Riverside County, Los Angeles, James is back under 24-hour watch by her husband of 41 years, Artis Mills, her sons, Donto and Sametto James, and her other family members.
"She is home with her husband and family by her side," confirmed her longtime friend and manager Lupe De Leon. "Her condition remains stable."
James was admitted to a hospital on Wednesday, December 21. Prior to being admitted, her live-in physician, Dr. Elaine James, revealed she was "gravely ill" and could only communicate with mostly "uh-huhs" and "no's." A lawyer for her sons even said on Sunday that she's "nearing the end of her time, but she's a tough lady."
Our prayers go out to Etta and her family.
