Usher has released a statement regarding his son Usher Raymond V’s pool accident this Monday. After jumping in the pool to retrieve a toy he dropped, the singer’s 5-year-old son’s arm was caught in the pool’s drain. Usher is now expressing his thanks to the two men who saved his son’s life.
"I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of prayers, love and support for my family's well-being,” the statement reads. “I would like to thank my Aunt Rena as well as the doctors and nurses who are working with us around the clock."
Usher’s son was in the care of his aunt, Rena Oden on the day of the accident. She placed a call to 911 after being unable to pull the boy from the drain herself. The singer thanked her as well as the two men who eventually freed his son.
"I would especially like to thank the two men who saved my son's life, Eugene Stachurski and Ben Crews. They are true heroes and I am deeply grateful to them," he wrote.
Tameka Raymond, the singer’s ex-wife and the mother of Usher V, also confirmed via Twitter that her son was in better shape.
"Cabin fever.. But I'm so happy to say that my son is doing much better,” she wrote. “Talking & asking for food. Thank you for ur well wishes & prayers.”
The former Mrs. Raymond has also reportedly filed for temporary primary custody of Usher V and the couple’s other son, 4-year-old Naviyd. She cites the pool accident as proof that he "continues to excessively travel, utilizes third-party caregivers to supervise the minor children rather than personally exercising parenting time and providing supervision for the minor children," according to her filed court order.
Tameka also argued in her statement that Usher does not consult her on decisions made regarding their children "including school enrollment and summer activities,” and that she does not have the phone number to his new home.
A hearing is scheduled for Friday afternoon regarding the emergency motion.
