In wake of the devastating earthquake and tsunami that has already claimed thousands of lives in Japan, VIBE reached out to B.o.B. and producer 9th Wonder who were both personally affected by this tragedy for their take on this horrific disaster.

B.o.B.: “I just heard about it before I hopped on my flight today. My bass player is actually from Japan, so it’s really hitting home for us. My heart definitely goes out to all the people of Japan. I just remember the way the Japanese treated me after my shows there. They were just so appreciative and kind to me, my Japanese fans would give me the shirts off their backs. So to hear about this kind of tragedy and devastation really touches my heart. I’m praying for them.”

9th Wonder: “There’s a few places on this planet that hip-hoppers have a love affair for and Japan is one of them. And the feeling is mutual. The Japanese are really helping keep the culture alive and are true to hip-hop’s elements. It’s just such an unfortunate tragedy that they’re going through right now.

“But one thing about hip-hop is that it has no color lines and it helps brings people together. It’s bigger than the color of your skin or anything, so anytime anything bad hits one of our places, it hurts all of us. I was watching it on the news and it’s kinda hard to believe. I just pray for all the people in Japan. It just lets you know how important life is and what’s important in life.”
