The NBA season kick-off is today and in VIBE's Year-End issue Miami locals cried foul after the Dallas Mavericks’ strutting post-NBA Finals bash on the Heat’s home turf. Club LIV’s operating partner David Grutman re-creates the controversial celebration. Like that, ’Bron-Bron?

VIBE: How much planning was involved in the Dallas Mavericks’ championship party?
DAVID GRUTMAN: Zero. There was no planning at all. [Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban] was there the night before, on Saturday. Anytime Mark Cuban is in town, he’s at our place.
Did you get a heads-up that everyone was coming?
Yeah. As soon as they won, Cuban’s assistant hit us.
Compare that night to the average Sunday.
LIV is really the place to be on Sunday. Lil Wayne performs for free every Sunday. We don’t pay him. He [made] the song “LIV on Sunday.” It’s just one of those magical nights. When Super Bowl Sunday was in Miami—the year the New Orleans Saints won—the entire Saints team spent crazy money. They all went nuts—from Jeremy Shockey to Reggie Bush, all of them. That’s pretty comparable to me.
Can you discuss how much the club brought in? What was the biggest bill?
Absolutely not. It’s not hard [to find out]. People took pictures of their bills and put them [online].
Were you criticized for hosting Dallas’ victory celebration?
I was at first. LeBron came [the next] Friday, and all the shit-talking stopped. LeBron usually doesn’t go to any other club, and he came and supported us the following Friday. We caught a little bit of heat, but it’s a game. It’s a basketball game.
People are passionate about it, though.
They are. But it’s Miami, it’s not…
Correct. —Thomas Golianopoulos
