VIBE’s daily additions to the ‘Pod

1. Curren$y (feat. Corner Boy P) – “Viva La Life”
This beat is just such a great sample, that as long as there’s a dope MC behind the mic the result will be favorable. Thankfully, both Spitta and P meet expectations.

2. Alexis Jordan (feat. J.Cole) – “Acid Rain”
Cole going in over a techno club-hit? As odd as that sounds, that’s exactly what happens on “Acid Rain.” Ravers & molly-poppers will enjoy every minute of this, but the hip-hop heads might turn their heads while screaming “Sellout!” Overall though, your opinion about this fist-pumper will definitely be based off your feelings about Europop.

3. Black Thought – “Rage Is Back”
With a seasoned vet killing it over one of hip-hop’s most revered beats, there’s simply nothing bad you can say about this. Much respect, BT.

4. Big Noyd, Large Professor & Kool G Rap – “Naturally Born”
If the upcoming Coalmine Records’ compilation album, Unearthed, sounds anything like this banger—which serves as the first single off the project—we can’t wait to hear more. Shoutout to Queens though.

5. Jon B – “Rockin Your Beautiful”
Production-wise, “Rockin Your Beautiful” isn’t really what we were expecting from JB. That’s not exactly a bad thing—it actually shows he’s willing to try different things with his sound—but smooth, laid-back joints are your thing, homie. Stick to that for a while.

6. Mach Five – Art Rap
The strong point of Art Rap is clearly in the production, which puts you in the mind of the 90s hip-hop cuts of Pharcyde & Camp Lo. The LP features collaborations from Trinidad Jame$, Chippy Nonstop and Gangsta Boo, with production creds from DJ Burn One. Standout tracks include “The Juxtaposition,” the smooth acoustic-meets-hip-hop banger “Gone Are The Dayz,” and “We Ballin'”—which features a cleverly placed “Didn’t Cha Know” sample.
