Designer Rachel Roy is travelling to Africa next month with “American Boy” singer Estelle on a mission to help empower local women through fashion and commerce.

Partnering with Fair Winds Trading, an organization that provides an international market for handmade goods by survivors of genocide, abuse, and poverty, Rachel will incorporate locally made bags and bracelets into her eponymous RACHEL Rachel Roy line for sale in the US.

The designer and Damon Dash ex wrote on her Facebook page, “I am proud to offer handcrafted pieces from these inspiring women in Rwanda and Tanzania as part of the RACHEL Rachel Roy collection. Proceeds from each one-of-a-kind piece help benefit their lives by giving them the opportunity to earn an income, provide for their families and live on their own.”

Rachel (@Rachel_Roy) and Estelle (@EstelleDarlings) will be documenting their journey on Twitter with photos and anecdotes from their travels. ––Adrien Field
