To many of us, Robert "Vanilla Ice" Van Winkle holds crown for one of hip-hop's cheesiest has-beens, but the retired rapper has turned his cheddar into a fortune.
Having spent his recent years remodeling and selling houses, the "Ice Ice Baby" wonder has been making $300,000 - $400,000 per residence, according to The NY Times. Now, Van Winkle has scored his own reality show, The Vanilla Ice Project where cameras will follow him and his construction team as the reconstruct a 7,000-square-foot, six-bedroom house in Florida.
Though Ice's latest venture may come as a surprise to the public, the 43-year-old says he's no newbie to home remodeling. "I’ve been doing this for over 13 years. I had a lot of money when I was younger, I said let me go buy a bunch of houses. Three years went by. I never used any of them, and I thought it was the worst investment of my life," he says. "So I said, 'Let’s sell everything, and I’ll have one primary house here in Miami.' When I sold them, I made, on each one of them, $300,000 to $400,000. I stopped in my tracks and said, 'It can’t be that easy.' But it was."
The Vanilla Ice Project will premiere on The DIY Network, October 14 at 9pm EST.
