VIBE goes to #ADE2012: Deep Dish Reunion?

Deep Dish

Deep Dish are one of the most iconic dance acts to ever emerge out of the US, trailblazing the pop-dance fusion sound long before Guetta arrived on American shores. The duo, made up of Sharam and Dubfire went their own ways in 2007, and have since both forged hugely successful solo careers; though it looks like the famous dance deuce might be reforming in the not too distant future.

“A lot of people have name checked us as pioneers of the whole pop-dance phenomenon we’ve been seeing happening, with maybe a bit more credibility,” Dubfire told VIBE in Amsterdam last week, at the ADE conference; which draws together the dance industry from all over the world, and is also the excuse for an inhuman amount of partying; including the event hosted by Dubfire for his ‘SCI+TEC’ label on the Wednesday night, as well as his appearance at Richie Hawtin’s ‘ENTER’ edition of the Awakenings Festival on Friday night.

In terms of a Deep Dish reunion, which would surely go down a treat at some of the US’s biggest events, he confirms the duo are in the talks. “We’ve always left that door open, and Sharam is actually here at ADE, we’re meeting today or tomorrow to talk about it. But we have been talking about it over the course of the past year or two, because we got approached by a lot of promoters. They just want to see us in the DJ booth together. And I think a lot of the promoters are getting tired of booking the same old artists, the Aviciis and the David Guettas, so they need a new marketing opportunity for their festivals….”

While Dubfire has seen huge success in the techno-heavy underground clubs of Europe, Sharam has enjoyed a lot of success on his home turf of America; combining a “big festival” and “small club” approach, that was showcased on his most recent ‘Night and Day’ compilation.

“He was actually successful much earlier in his solo career than I was, so I had a lot of catching up to do. I was watching him, and I’m like fuck, I better catch up [laughs]. Straight out of the end of the Deep Dish phase, he’s got this hugely successful solo career, with a massive hit single; I need to step it up if I’m gonna have the same sort of staying power.”

It wasn’t long until Dubfire was launched into the top-tier of underground techno DJ/producers, though he says he’d welcome another jaunt with Deep Dish. “It all depends on what we can say musically, either as DJs or collaborators again. So let’s see, maybe you’ll see some shows next year.”
