After supporting Kendrick Lamar's sold out gig at NYC's Roseland Ballroom on Tuesday night (Feb. 25), TDE's Ab-Soul, headlined his own show at SOBs on Wednesday. The downtown venue was filled with overjoyed spectators who believe in Soul's music and message. In allegiance to the Top Dawg Ent. rapper, the crowd chanted "Soulo ho" upon his every request. Before dabbling into his latest album, 'Control System,' Soul rocked tracks from his previous projects. He turned things out with crowd favorite "Pineal Gland," which excited fans before his pack of special guests hit the stage.
Soul started out the carousel by bringing out his Black Hippy cohorts Jay Rock and Schoolboy Q for a song apiece. Next up, was Smoke DZA, the Harlem bred emcee performed his collaboration "Diamonds" with Soul. The Pro Era crew and Joey Bada$$ came on stage next to support-- the East coast, West coast love was all there. A$AP Rocky was the last surprise guest from the Big Apple, but made sure to get the crowd cheering the loudest before the grand finale.
Soul saved the last cameo for Kendrick Lamar. The two of them have been doing this for the past year now, traveling the country on the BET Music Matters Tour. But Wednesday night had its own unique feeling. Kendrick killed several tracks from 'g.o.o.d Kid M.a.a.d. city,' while Ab-Soul supported him with ad-libs. TDE's most enigmatic rapper closed out the night on stage solo and thanked the rowdy crowd for all the love.
