Rupert Wyatt's Rise of the Planet of the Apes left audiences feeling a bit mopey for the human race. But judging by the first teaser of Matt Reeves' sequel, the mood of the film hasn't improved too much.
The pandemic which threatened humankind in the first film has left much of the world is dismay. Jason Clarke's Malcolm, a former architect who attempts to council with the apes, is left to survey the wreckage and protect what's still around in mankind.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a more gloomier, darker, and grim take on the world Rupert Wyatt left behind. As the remnants dodge the so-called Simian Flu and live a hand-to-mouth existence, Ape City becomes a bastion as man attempts to restore a fragile pax between ape and human worlds.
Dawn finds man and ape trying to cope after a decade of fighting to maintain (and establish) their own civilization, but who will step up to stop the war from commencing? Gary Oldman also stars in the film as Dreyfus. Andy Serkis plays Ceasar the Ape.
