Fox Searchlight Pictures fuels the Oscar buzz for Steve McQueen’s 12 Years a Slave by releasing this incredible TV spot featuring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Alfre Woodard and star, Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Based upon Solomon Northup’s own words, 12 Years a Slave tells the tale of a free man sold into bondage and his subsequent fight for survival and freedom. Northup (Ejiofor), an upstate New Yorker, is abducted and sold into slavery against his will.

Facing insurmountable odds and malevolence at the hands of his slave owner (Fassbender), Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to maintain his sanity. Throughout the TV spot, you’ll see moments of unexpected kindness from “strangers” such as a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) and a fellow slave on the plantation (Alfre Woodard).
