Don't let the headline fool you, Chucky is indeed returning to the screen, but in a very different way.
The Child's Play reboot entitled Curse of Chucky has been really flying under the radar. While that's no grand shocker, the thing that is is that the movie will be heading straight to video this fall. If you think that going that route means that the film is a waste of time, you'll be surprised once you watch the trailer.
With so many movies coming out this summer and fall, there's too much competition at the box office, so nowadays the best route is for movies to call TV sets home first. The world's scariest killer doll makes his comeback after a nine-year hiatus from scaring bejesus out of young kids and adults alike in this new movie.
Yes, you're hearing that correctly! That is Brad Dourif, who originally lent his vocal chords to Chucky when the series launched in 1988, reprising his role. "It has been a quarter of a century since fans were first petrified by Toyland's most lethal serial killer in Child's Play," said Glenn Ross, general manager and EVP of the production company. "Now, 25 years later, the deadly legacy continues as Chucky resumes his disturbing reign of terror, delivering more of the blood-curdling scares and bone-chilling twists that have cemented his place as one of the world's most legendary horror film icons."
Universal 1440 Entertainment will release it straight to DVD and Blu-ray on October 8th and to stream digitally on September 24. True Blood's Fiona Dourif (Brad's daughter) stars in the picture, as well.
