After some muddled marketing by Marvel, we're finally blessed with two trailers for the price of one!
Hugh Jackman makes his triumphant return as Logan in James Mangold's The Wolverine that bows into theaters on July 26. The picture is the sequel to 2009's
laughable X-Men Origins: Wolverine and marks the latest in the X-Men franchise.
Wolvie finds himself out of his depth in modern day Japan where he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death struggle that will leave him forever changed. Brian Tee, Will Yun Lee and Hiroyuki Sanada also star, with a cameo by Famke Janssen. You can see the U.S. trailer for yourself below:
Director James Mangold told Empire last October that the film would be styled as "Japanese noir picture with tentpole action in it." It looks as if he's delivering on his promise as the mutant hero goes to Tokyo, fighting ninjas and samurais along the way. The sequel is based on the comic book series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. Already, there are at least three major set-pieces that are causing quite a stir, including Wolverine fighting on top of a bullet train, Lady Viper's skin-rip reveal, and Logan hinting that he's lost his healing factor.
A key point that is missing in the international trailer, which you can see below:
The Wolverine is set for a July 26 release, and audiences can see him unsheathe his claws again in next year's X-Men: Days of Future Past.
