Many fans of J.J. Abrams' last show, Fringe, were audibly upset when it was pulled off the air. Luckily for all of us, the team behind that captivating show has another new program coming this fall.
Almost Human is a futuristic "buddy-cop" thriller courtesy of director and showrunner, J.H. Wyman, as well as creator J.J. Abrams. Michael Ealy stars alongside Karl Urban (Dredd) in the series which is set in the near future, where all LAPD officers are partnered with highly evolved human-like androids.
Ealy's character is named Dorian, and alongside LAPD officer John Kennex (Urban) they solve crimes and get into and out of some pretty harrowing situations. Ealy's Dorian is adept at understanding humanity more than his human counterpart ever seems to be capable of doing. Wyman penned the script for the project, and also handles executive producing duties alongside Abrams.
The last series that featured the acting heartthrob was the USA Network's Common Law, which only lasted on season, and so we're ecstatic to see the acting savant back on the screen. You can check out the trailer below:
The show is a mix of action and drama, but the "buddy cop" appeal comes with the fair amount of comedic chutzpah that Kennex and his synthetic partner show while getting adjusted to one another. Ealy's next project will be on the big screen in Screen Gems' remake of the 1986 romantic-comedy, About Last Night.
FOX has given Almost Human the lauded Monday night slot at 8:00 p.m. ET, and will air before the network's new contemporary take on the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, which will star Nicole Beharie (42) and will run at 9:00 p.m. ET.
