Watch: Will Smith, Jaden Smith Embrace Danger In 'After Earth' Trailer

Real-life father and son put on their illest space suits and take center stage in this new sci-fi trailer.

Will and Jaden Smith made you shed a few teardrops in their first film (2006's Pursuit Of Happyness). Now, in M. Night Shyamalan's epic sci-fi / action blockbuster, the dynamic duo aim to blow up the box office in one of the biggest films of the summer.

The first trailer gave cinephiles an impressive look at the universe in which the film is set, taking us to an Earth a thousand years removed of humanity and inhabited by a strange, unearthly presence. We were treated to a new poster earlier, and as promised, the new trailer has been released online.

After Earth finds Nova Prime as mankind's new home after a cataclysmic event forced all to escape from Earth. Legendary General Cypher Raige (played by Will Smith) returns from an extended tour of duty to his estranged family, ready to be a father to his 13-year-old sonn, Kitai (Jaden Smith). But when an asteroid storm damages Cypher and Kitai's craft, they're stranded on a now unfamiliar and very dangerous Earth. Judging by the clips in this trailer, The Raige's suit is a second-skin, able to adapt to the different environments and changes in weather patterns.

Sony is planning on this being a totally new franchise that stretches across multiple platforms, announcing at last summer's Comic-Con that they would be developing After Earth into two novels, digital shorts, and a comic. The scope of this movie looks pretty epic, but we've been let down before (The Last Airbender anyone?!) — so we'll keep our eyes on this one!

Isabelle Fuhrman, Zoë Kravitz and Sophie Okonedo also star alongside the father-son pair.
