Kendrick Lamar became the kid to watch for since the release of his highly-praised debut good kid, m.A.A.d city.
While many artists, both up-and-coming and veteran across genres, would cash out for some wax space alongside K-Dot, the Compton native has a surprising wishlist himself.
In a recent interview with DJ Buck of Hot 93.7 Hartford, CT, Lamar revealed that his top dream collaborator would be fellow Comptonite DJ Quik.
“He is a legend, the original Compton cat that really branded the foundation along with N.W.A,” he said of the rapper/producer. “That’s all we was playing in the house when I was coming up.”
Now that the "Backseat Freestyle" rap star has gained co-signed from the likes of Dr. Dre and The Game, Lamar says the recognition is an affirmation of his success.
“It’s a good feeling, it lets me know I’m doing something right,” he said. “Because I respect them, and for them to give me respect… to be able to do it so early in my career is a great feeling.”
