Beyonce and Blue Ivy are still the talk of the town!
The new mom sparked controversy amongst media outlets and the general public after she was spotted breast-feeding Blue Ivy while eating lunch publicly in NYC.
Because of Bey’s star status, many believe that other mothers will be inspired and influenced to breast feed their babies in public and not merely in restrooms. Dr. Alison Stuebe, an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, told ABC News “By bringing breast-feeding into the mainstream, Beyoncé can help break down barriers so that mothers and babies can breast-feed in peace.”
But Bey’s breast-feeding controversy is right on time for the headline-grabbing, nursing in public group, NIP. Through NIP, mothers are fighting for their rights to feed their babies wherever they choose. The angry mothers stage “nurse-ins'--they even plan to show images of mothers breast-feeding on toilets to further convey their message that breast feeding in bathrooms is unsanitary.
