Will Ferrell To Receive First-Ever Comedic Genius Award

The Anchorman 2 star will be honored this year with the first ever 'Comedic Genius Award' at this year's MTV Movie Awards.

Will Ferrell will receive the aforementioned prize at the upcoming ceremony in April for his "incomparable contributions to the world of comedy". The former Saturday Night Live prized comedian began his comedy career as a part of Los Angele's Groundlings improv group. He was one of the many SNL "not-ready-for-prime-time-players" to make the leap into feature film.

His movie credits include Elf, Step Brothers and most recently, the political comedy The Campaign with Zach Galifianakis. "Will Ferrell epitomizes what it means to be a comedic genius and it's only fitting that he should be the inaugural recipient of this award," said Stephen Friedman, president of MTV. "Over the course of his extraordinary, 17-plus-year career, he has entertained audiences across the globe with an impressive array of laugh-out-loud performances on air, online and in films.

Ferrell is currently on set as the legendarily awesome inept San Diego news presenter Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which opens in cinemas on December 20.

Meanwhile, Rebel Wilson (Bridesmaids) will host the 22nd annual MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, April 14.
