Will Smith FTL? 'Men In Black 3' Overtakes ‘Avengers’ But Misses Mark

Will Smith’s summer smash streak may be over… or at least not as strong as it used to be.

Although his blockbuster sequel Men in Black 3 is expected to top the box office, grossing $72 million over the four-day weekend, the prognosis is still negative. That’s because the time-traveling flick costs roughly $230 million to make.

The film finds Smith traveling back in time to duel aliens alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin.

Despite failing to meet forecasts, Men in Black 3 does successfully dethrone The Avengers, which had topped the box office for 21 days.
