World’s Oldest Marathon Runner Is Retiring At 101 Years Old!

/ February 27, 2013

A centenarian decides to hangs up his running shoes. Meanwhile, we have a hard time running for the bus in the morning!

Fauja Singh, who claims he is 101 years old, recently finished his last competitive marathon race. The London resident decided to hang up his Adidas after completing eight marathons since 2000. “I am happy that I am retiring at the top of the game, but I am sad that the time has come for me to not be a part of it.”

Singh began running marathons after suffering from a bout of depression when he lost his wife and his fifth son. In 2011, Singh became the oldest full-marathon runner after completing the Toronto marathon in 5 hours and 40 minutes.

His final race, the Hong Kong 10K, was completed by Singh in an hour and 32 minutes. “From a tragedy has come a lot of success and happiness,” Singh said before the race.

He no longer plans to run competitively, but he said he will run for charities if asked.
