Yasiin Bey (aka Mos Def) and Mannie Fresh are collaborating on a project that will bridge the hip-hop gap between NOLA and the BK. In two back-to-back videos released today, the two rappers are shown working in the studio on their forthcoming "OMFGOD."
In the first footage from the lab, dubbed Act One, Fresh calls the partnership nothing short of "history in the making." Act Two begins with an excerpt from a 2007 interview where Bey manifests his admiration for the former Cash Money rhymer. "I've always been a big fan of Mannie Fresh, cause, I think, his sound represents a modern version of that New Orleans brass thing," Bey says. In the studio he later comes to term with the awesomeness of their unprovoked collaboration, exclaiming "Lord have mercy! I'm on a Mannie Fesh beat."
Two more behind-the-scenes videos are due before the final product surfaces. No official drop date has been set for "OMFGOD."
