Born Scott Ramon Samuel Mescudi, the 28 year old rapper now better known as Kid CuDi has risen to fame right before our eyes. However, before he was the G.O.O.D Music signee that we see before us, CuDi was a young, G.E.D recipient from Ohio who was highly influenced by his fathers death from Cancer, when Kid CuDi was just 11years old.
In 2008, his first mixtape, A Kid Named CuDi was released while he was living in Brooklyn, New york. One year later, music mogul Kanye West signed him to G.O.O.D Music. After a stellar 2010 debut, Kid CuDi’s second studio production Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager received some critical reviews. Despite appearing at the top of the Billboard charts, the album delves into his cocaine addiction, infusing elements of hip-hop with rock. Cudi is set to debut a Rockband with Dot Da Genius called WZRD. Although his first attempt at creating his own record label(Dream On) failed, he is determined to try again, this time naming the label "Wicked Awesome Records". His current project, entitled Wizard, has a heavy rock influence. In fact, the Cleveland MC has stated the majority of tracks have been produced along with Dot Da Genius, who helped put CuDi on the map with Day N’ Nite. In an interesting twist, the self proclaimed “Rager” has expressed a newfound distaste for marijuana, and has claimed he has officially stopped using drugs. We’re interested to see how CuDi’s sobriety affects his sound.
Kid CuDi is currently prepping his third studio album, Indicud while taking care of his daughter, Vada Wamwene Mescudi. This summer, Kanye West and the rest of the G.O.O.D Music crew is gearing up for the release of their compilation album, Cruel Summer.
