Singer, songwriter, and actress, Lauryn Hill is one of the most revered female artist of our time. She became famous alongside Prakazrel “Pras” Michel and his cousin Wyclef Jean when the three formed the group the Fugees (originally called Tranzlator Crew). Also around the same time, Ms. Hill began her acting career with roles in As The World Turns and Sister Act II: Back in the Habit.
Ms. Hill had a short stint at Columbia University while at the same time, The Fugees released their first album, Blunted on Reality. The Fugees would go on to release another album, The Score, which sold 17 million copies and won 2 Grammy Awards, making them the largest-selling rap group of all times, before disbanding. Ms. Hill released one of the best female solo albums, The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998, an album that won 5 grammys’, and sold over 12 million copies; making Lauryn Hill the first hip-hop artist to win at that time.
Lauryn Hill went on a hiatus from making music and acting but then resurfaced for a short time to release another album, MTV Unplugged No. 2.0, in 2002, which received mixed reviews. She has 5 children to her then boyfriend Rohan Marley and just recently had her 6th child in 2011, but not by Marley. Ms. Hill who many have only seen perform these past years at ‘Rock the Bells’ and Coachella, was a surprise guest with Nas at Hot 97’s Summer Jam this past June. Lauryn Hill is set to perform in this years Rock the Bells as well.
