Breakthrough: One of the most visible members of the classic hip hop collective Wu-Tang Clan, Method Man was one of only two members to get a solo song on the group’s debut, Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers (Loud/RCA, 1993), when he appeared on “Method Man.” He was also the first Wu member to release a solo album when he dropped his debut, Tical (Def Jam), in 1994. The album included the hit song, “I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By,” featuring Mary J. Blige, which won a Grammy in 1995 for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. He’s also gained fame starring in several films, such as Belly (Artisan, 1998) and How High (Universal, 2001).
Now You Know: Method Man lifted his stage name from the 1973 martial arts film The Fearless Young Boxer.
