Breakthrough: Though Redman is probably best known nationally for frequently working with Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man—both on their collaborative album Blackout! (Def Jam, 1999) and their Fox TV show, Meth and Red—Red’s fame can be traced back to his classic solo debut album, Whut? Thee Album (Def Jam, 1992). It featured the hits “Tonite’s Da Nite” and “Time 4 Sum Aksion.” His second album, Dare Iz a Darkside (Def Jam, 1994), was also well-received both critically and commercially as a result of the stellar singles “Rockafella” and “Can’t Wait.”
Now You Know: In 1998, Redman paired with Keith Murray and Erick Sermon to form the group Def Squad. Their first and only album, El Niño (Def Jam, 1998), featuring the single, “Full Cooperation,” peaked at No. 2 on The Billboard 200.
