Reppin': New Orleans, La
Breakthrough: Already a fixture on the New Orleans bounce and rap scenes, Juvenile became known to rap fans nationwide when Jay-Z jumped on a remix of the single "Ha" from Juve's third solo album, 400 Degreez (Cash/Money/Universal, 1998). The album's second single, "Back That Azz Up," (featuring Lil Wayne and Mannie Fresh) followed. That record became a smash hit and propelled 400 Degreez to more than four million units sold.
Now You Know: Before Juvenile achieved success as a rapper, he worked odd jobs while writing and perfecting verses, including an alligator wrestler. In 2008, his four-year-old daughter, Jelani, was shot and killed allegedly by her 17-year-old half brother in a triple homicide in her home outside of Atlanta.
