Breakthrough: One half of rap duo UGK, aka Underground Kingz, Pimp C, along with partner Bun B, became Southern icons with the release of their commercial debut album Too Hard to Swallow (Jive, 1994). They rose to national notoriety following their appearance on Jay-Z's 1999 hit, "Big Pimpin'."
Now You Know: Pimp C, who also produced the majority of UGK's music, died on December 4, 2007, in a Los Angeles hotel room from complications of sleep apnea and promethazine and codeine abuse. He was 33.
