Bun B
Name: Bernard Freeman
Reppin': Port Arthur, TX
Breakthrough: Pimp C and Bun B formed UGK in the late 1980s and released their mission statement, Too Hard to Swallow (Jive), in 1992. In 1996, they took it to a new level with the seminal Ridin’ Dirty (Jive). But the duo didn't gain mainstream acclaim until their appearance on Jay-Z's ''Big Pimpin'.'' UGK was also featured on Three 6 Mafia's ''Sippin' on Da Syrup,'' a Billboard R&B and Hip Hop Top 40 hit. While Pimp C was incarcerated from 2003-07, Bun B successfully stepped out on his own with the release of Trill (Rap-A-Lot/Asylum, 2006), his gold solo album.
Now You Know: Bun B and Pimp C were originally part of a group called Four Black Ministers. After that group disbanded, the two friends formed UGK and independently released The Southern Way on cassette in 1988.
