Breakthrough: After establishing himself in the D.C. Metro area in 2006 with two regional, go-go influenced hits, ''Dig Dug (Shake That)'' and ''Breakdown,'' and two successful mixtapes, Wale signed to producer Mark Ronson's Allido Records in the spring of 2007. A deal with Interscope Records followed, as did a performance of ''W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E'' from his third mixtape, 100 Miles & Running, at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. His major label debut, Attention: Deficit (Allido/Interscope) has yet to be released.

Now You Know: Wale was named ''D.C. Metro Breakthrough Artist of the Year'' at WKYS's 2006 Go-Go Awards and he toured with go-go group UCB (Uncalled 4 Band), also from Washington D.C., on the first promotional tour for Attention: Deficit.
