Breakthrough: An eccentric rapper and producer, Jay Electronica first attracted attention in 2007 with the 15-minute musical piece, “Act 1: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge),” a composition released via his MySpace page, built on the film score to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Focus, 2004) and marked by a lack of percussion, which would go on to become an Electroinica signature. He is also known for his demo, Style Wars, an EP built on J Dilla beats, as well as providing the beat to ''Queens Get the Money,'' from Nas' 2008 untitled (Def Jam) project.

Now You Know: Jay Electronica is signed to longtime girlfriend Erykah Badu's record label, Control Freaq Records. In the spring of 2009, the singer gave birth to the couple's daughter, Mars Merkaba. The couple documented the birth on Twitter.
