Breakthrough: Kid Cudi's major break came courtesy of the mixtape A Kid Named Cudi, which was released by the clothing company 10 Deep and featured the haunting hit ''Day 'N Night.'' The tape caught the ear of megastar Kanye West, who invited Cudi to Hawaii to help him work on his next project, 808s & Heartbreak (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, 2008). Cudi subsequently appeared on 808s and signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music.
Now You Know: Before getting signed to a major label deal, Cudi worked retail jobs at American Apparel and the BAPE store in downtown Manhattan.
