Breakthrough: A prolific MC and producer, Charles Hamilton first attracted attention with the release of a series of mixtapes, including the highly-touted The Pink Lavalamp. Largely affiliated with a crop of fresh-faced rappers who have built their buzz off the strength of releasing music on independent hip hop blogs, Charles Hamilton gained the attention of Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine in 2008 and the executive signed the MC to his label. To date, Hamilton has released one crossover single, “Brooklyn Girls.”
Now You Know: Charles Hamilton is the cousin of revered female rapper MC Lyte.
