Breakthrough: Raised a Muslim, Freeway made his first appearance on 2000’s “1-900-Hustler,” from Jay-Z’s Dynasty Roc la Familia (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam, 2000). In 2003 he released his debut, Philadelphia Freeway (Roc-A-Fella), which included features from Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg and production by Kanye West and Just Blaze. It cracked the top 10 of The Billboard 200, propelled by club favorite “Flipside.”
Now You Know: After meeting in a local night club, Freeway and future Roc-A-Fella label mate Beanie Sigel made a pact that whoever was first to get a record deal would get the other signed. Sigel got his deal and stayed true to his word.
