RZA to Direct Martial Arts Film
Quentin Tarantino gives Wu-Tang Clan member the green light for his directorial debut
RZA
Name: Robert Diggs
Reppin': Staten Island, NY
Breakthrough: Wu-Tang’s first album, Enter the Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers (Loud, 1993), launched RZA and his fellow Wu members into the spotlight. RZA produced the entire album, crafting a new sample-driven sound that combined dark soundscapes, martial arts movie clips and sweet soul loops. RZA is considered a legendary producer but is overlooked as an MC with an idiosyncratic style. RZA has released several albums under his alter ego Bobby Digital, including Bobby Digital in Stereo (Gee Street, 1998) and Digital Bullet (KOCH, 2001). He has also become renowned for his film scores, which include 1999’s Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (Channel Four) and 2004’s Kill Bill Volume 1 (Miramax).
Now You Know: Before his time in Wu-Tang RZA was known as Prince Rakeem, and released a 1991 EP called Ooh I Love You Rakeem on Tommy Boy Records.
