Name: Daniel Dumile

Breakthrough: Under the name Zev Love X, MF DOOM formed the group KMD with his younger brother DJ Subroc and rapper Onyx the Birthstone Kid in the early 1990s. The group debuted their first album Mr. Hood (Elektra) in 1991. However, Subroc was struck by a car and killed on the Long Island Expressway in 1993 and DOOM temporarily stopped rapping, eventually relocating to Atlanta. By the late 1990s, he reemerged in New York City and assumed his new identity MF DOOM, inspired by Marvel Comics villain Doctor Doom. And in 1998, he released his debut solo project, Operation: Doomsday (Fondle ‘Em Records), officially marking his return to hip hop.

Now You Know: MF DOOM and Ghostface Killah have been working on a collaborative project, Swift & Changeable (Nature), since 2006.
