Breakthrough: As one of three members of pioneering hip hop group Run-D.M.C. (along with Rev Run and Jam Master Jay), DMC burst onto the scene with the group’s groundbreaking 1984 debut, Run-D.M.C. (Profile/Arista). The album’s stark beats and aggressive lyrics proved a stark contrast to everything else going on at the time, and it became an immediate sensation. The genre-bending King of Rock (Profile/Arista, 1985) followed, which brought a rock sound to hip hop for the first time and set the stage for the group's breakthrough masterpiece, Raising Hell (Profile/Arista, 1986). That record featured the Aerosmith collaboration "Walk This Way," which went triple platinum and established the group as hip hop's first international superstars.
