Breakthrough: Together with fellow Queens rapper Mistah Lawnge, Dres formed Black Sheep and released the duo's debut album A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing (Mercury, 1991). Propelled by the ubiquitous single "The Choice is Yours," the album was certified gold in 1992. Among Dres' peers, the Queens, N.Y., rhymer proved himself to be a worthy MC, employing dry and, at times, ballsy humor in his highly lyrical approach. He branched off in 1999 to release his solo effort Sure Shot (Ground Control) highlighted by the single "Pardon Me."

Now You Know: Black Sheep was part of the legendary, eccentric rhyme collective the Native Tongues, which also included The Jungle Brothers, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, and Monie Love.
