Breakthrough: Alongside producer Erick Sermon, PMD served as one half of the legendary group EPMD. Their debut album, Strictly Business (Priority, 1988), showcased the group’s penchant for rhyming over sample-laden production on songs like “Strictly Business” and “You Gots to Chill” and is widely perceived to be the most influential of their seven albums together. The two have also gone through a tumultuous on-again, off-again recording relationship, which has led the PMD members to record four solo projects.

Now You Know: All seven of the EPMD projects include the word “business” in the title (two of PMD’s four solo projects also include it). Additionally, every EPMD album has at least one song with the word “jane” in it.
