Breakthrough: After meeting Biz Markie in the early 1980s and later becoming a key member of Marley Marl’s rap collective, The Juice Crew, in 1986, Big Daddy Kane and Marley teamed up to record Kane’s debut solo project, Long Live the Kane (Cold Chillin’/Warner Bros., 1987), which featured the hit singles “Raw” and “Ain’t No Half Steppin’.” In 1988, he also spit a memorable verse on the classic Juice Crew cut “The Symphony,” and his second album, It’s A Big Daddy Thing (Cold Chillin’/Warner Bros., 1990), featured the hits “Smooth Operator” and “I Get The Job Done.”
