Breakthrough: At 18, Del released his groundbreaking solo debut, I Wish My Brother George Was Here (Asylum, 1991), which featured the standout single “Mistadobalina.” But it was on his sophomore effort, No Need for Alarm (Elektra, 1993), that Del showed his true renegade style. The album saw the freestyle-oriented Del take on a leadership role with the Heiroglyphics crew, a group of like-minded MC’s that included Souls of Mischief, Casual, Domino, and Pep Love.
Now You Know: Del, who is a cousin of gangsta rap icon Ice Cube, earned a certified multi-platinum plaque for his work on the animated hip hop group Gorillaz’ self-titled 2001 release (Parlophone/Virgin).
