Breakthrough: In 1992, Buckshot Shorty, 5ft, and DJ Evil Dee formed Black Moon, a Brooklyn-based act that personified early-’90s East Coast hip hop with boom-bap beats, dusty samples and hardcore, street-infused lyricism. Their pinnacle statement, Enta Tha Stage (Nervous), was released a year later and became an instant underground classic. Black Moon’s lead MC dropped “Shorty” from his moniker in 1994.
Now You Know: In 1995, Buckshot formed the all-star hip hop trio Crooklyn Dodgers with Brooklyn brethren Masta Ace and Special Ed. They recorded the title track for Spike Lee’s 1994 film Crooklyn (Universal).
