Breakthrough: A fixture on the vibrant Houston underground scene in the early aughts, Chamillionaire rose to prominence along with then-friend and partner Paul Wall, after meeting popular local radio and mixtape DJ Michael "5000" Watts. After a brief stint working promotions for Watts' Swishahouse Records label, they established the duo The Color Changing Click and independently released their debut, Get Ya Mind Correct, through Paid In Full Entertainment in 2002. The album's impressive performance, coupled with Chamillionaire's continued success on the mixtape circuit, led to a deal with Universal Records. Chamillionaire's major label debut, The Sound of Revenge (Chamillitary/Universal), dropped in 2005 and went platinum, largely on the back of the Grammy Award-winning smash single, "Ridin'," a collaboration with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Krayzie Bone.
Now You Know: Although they were childhood friends, Chamillionaire and Paul Wall had a very public falling out after the release of Get Ya Mind Correct, and playing to the situation, their follow-up album was aptly titled Controversy Sells (Paid In Full, 2004). The two rappers have since reconciled.
