Name: Devin Copeland

Reppin': Houston, TX

Breakthrough: After joining the Houston-based hip hop group the Coughee Brothas (later known as the Odd Squad) in the late 1980s and releasing the group effort Fadanuf Fa Erybody!! (Rap-A-Lot/Priority) in 1994, Devin went solo with his first album, The Dude (Rap-A-Lot), in 1998. Commercially, his biggest success was his third solo project, To Tha X-Treme (Rap-A-Lot, 2004), but his guest verse on “Fuck You” from Dr. Dre’s seminal sophomore project Dr. Dre 2001 (Aftermath/Interscope, 1999) is widely regarded as one of his most recognizable verses.

Now You Know: In 2008, Devin the Dude released his fifth album, Landing Gear, on Razor & Tie Records. It officially ended his 15-year relationship with Houston label Rap-A-Lot Records.
