Burnout Revenge

Storyline: The Burnout racing series was made for the group of racing fans that needed a break from the popular simulation racing games (Project Gotham, Gran Turismo) and just wanted to crash into something. Burnout 3: Takedown was the best game in the series and some consider it the best arcade racer ever. You were given the ability to actually battle other racers, in the middle of the race, taking them out and making them crash into a wall or lose control so their car would flip several times in slow motion. So with Burnout Revenge, there's a lot of to live up to and believe it or not, the game is even better. Audio/Visual: The images and graphics are some of the best ever seen on an arcade racer. Although the cars are fictional, they look great, especially when going down a side street at 200 MPH, as you attempt to run your competition off the road and hit and knock traffic out of the way while making your way to the finish line. The sparks flying, the pieces of debris falling and the illusion of a high speed race really get the adrenaline pumping. The sounds bring even more excitement — the roar of the engines, the screeching, the whirring, the crashing, the exploding — just add that much more to the experience. The soundtrack is kind of weak however, but if you have an Xbox, the custom soundtrackis a lot better. left Controls: The controls are pretty simple as the triggers control gas and brakes and steering is controlled by the analog stick. And the buttons control speed boosts and various views. One of the cool aspects of controls for this game is that when you are crashing, the camera goes into slow motion and you can control your car while its being flipped in the air to run into some of the racers that are passing you by. This enables you to slow the other cars down so there won't be much distance between you. Hotness: There's nothing better than battling with fellow racers and using same way traffic as unguided missiles to take them out. Called a "traffic check," you ram an innocent car in front of you in a particular angle, launching at least five cars ahead of you. Be careful though, as you speed forward that same car may still be in the air coming down on your windshield. Wackness: Nothing wack here. If you're a fan of arcade racing or just need a break from your racing simulation, this is the first game to get. Read our latest game reviews:
